THE RIVER TEIFI meanders through innumerable white-washed villages on its way to the sea at Cardigan Bay, and everywhere one would once have heard heard the clatter of looms in the innumerable weaving workshops and mills.
One essential product was the carthen, or blanket, used as shawl, bed covering, and storage cloth. They were often woven using whatever yarn was to hand, and are wonderfully and rustically diverse in consequence.
We have taken an original 19th century Teifiside carthen, and recreated a range of three subtly different colourways to evoke this important textile heritage of West Wales.
All three of our Welsh Country Rustic Plaid Throws are woven from varying combinations of natural undyed yarn (Ecru/Grey, Ecru/Moorit, and Grey/Charcoal), with different soft over stripes in Purple and Blue, Orange and Blue, and Flame and Green.
